Join us for our annual service project of packing shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts (toys, school supplies, and essential toiletries) and delivering them to needy children in communities around the world. This is a great opportunity for our families to talk about generosity and faith together, as we involve our kids in the preparation of and prayer over the shoebox gift.
Operation Christmas Child PartnershipHOW TO PACK A BOX
This year, we are once again partnering with Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child for the logistics and distribution of our shoeboxes. One of the benefits of working with Operation Christmas Child is that each box will go to a child who has never before received such a gift, and has likely never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to the box, each child will receive a Bible story booklet in their language and be invited into a 12-week Bible study, where they’ll receive a Bible of their own upon completion. Learn more about Samaritan's Purse evangelism and discipleship program HERE.
Step 1) Find a Shoebox: Pick-up a shoebox in the Upper or Lower Mall at Oak Hills Church on October 26/27 or November 2/3 weekend. You may also use your own shoebox, or purchase a clear plastic shoebox size container. Assemble, and wrap or decorate your shoebox (wrap lid separately).
Step 2) Select Boy or Girl: Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14.
Step 3) Fill with Gifts: Select a medium to large “wow” item such as a soccer ball with pump or stuffed animal, then fill with other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. Find instructions HERE.
Step 4) Pray: Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.
Step 5) Follow your Box: Donate $9 online and receive a tracking label to Follow Your Box and discover the destination of your shoebox gift. (You may also place the OCC donation envelope inside your box.)
Step 6) Drop-off: Return the shoebox to Oak Hills Church any day during the week or weekend before November 16/17. Box return tables are set up in the Upper and Lower Mall area. Our Bibleland shoebox return celebration and processional will occur at both the 9:30 and 11:30 AM services on Sunday, November 17.
If you are not able to bring your box to Oak Hills Church that weekend (or forget your box), take your shoebox gift to a local drop-off location NO LATER THAN November 25. Click HERE to find a location near you.
