Recommended Resources for Neighborhood Bible Studies

As you begin to get to know your neighbors, and perhaps have begun to meet together in a Monthly Neighborhood Gathering, you may decide it’s time to start some Bible study time together.

For this season, we’d like to recommend your groups take time to get into the Word of God. YES – just reading and studying the Bible itself! We’ve listed below a few resources that may help you as you join with some of your neighbors to discuss the scriptures. Some are DVD-based studies and others are simple study guides to help walk your group through a particular book of the Bible.

We’ve provided a couple of ways to access each of these resources online. You may also be able to find them at your favorite Christian bookstore.

Note that the “Romans Road” and “The Story” may be viewed from the Oak Hills web site with study questions available for download free of charge. These are in the Media Archives section [click here]. DVDs are also available at the Crownridge bookstore (hours: Sat. 5:45-8 p.m., Sun. 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wed. 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.).

As you utilize these resources, we’d love to hear your feedback. Take a few moments and let us know how it’s going in your neighborhood

Romans Road

If we place our faith in Jesus as the solution to our problem, we can go over the bridge into a right relationship with God. Believing in Jesus means we admit that we are sinners and we trust that our sins are forgiven because of his death on the cross. If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) – Romans Road (archived – OHC Media)

r12 True Spirituality – Chip Ingram

Being a genuine disciple of Christ flows out of a relationship with Him. It’s about experiencing God’s grace, not earning His love through performance. A real relationship with Jesus Christ will produce a follower whose life looks progressively more like His life. Romans 12 provides a relational profile of an authentic disciple: someone who is surrendered to God, separate from the world’s values, sober in self-assessment, serving in love and supernaturally responds to evil with good. Christians who live out this kind of lifestyle are what we call r12 Christians. God is willing to go deeper and grow you into a real disciple… are you ready?

Esther – Beth Moore

Esther: It’s Tough Being a Woman – Leader Kit by Beth Moore helps a leader facilitate this women’s Bible study experience and contains all that is needed to conduct the 9 weeks of small group time. Join Beth in a very personal examination of the Old Testament story of Esther as she peels back the layers of history and shows how very contemporary and applicable the story is to our lives today. If you’ve ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the Bible study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther’s day, it’s tough today. This portion of God’s Word contains treasures to aid us in our hurried, harried, and pressured lives.

Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted – Priscilla Shirer

What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this 7-session Bible study, Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.
