Jerry & Janet Hale

Jerry & Janet Hale

I was born twice in Richland Parish, Louisiana. My natural birth occurred to Godly parents in the town of Delhi. I was born again “of water and the Spirit” in the community called Archibald. My father was a Church of Christ minister mostly in rural Louisiana communities. I came to know the Lord sitting at my father’s feet at church and home. I also learned from hard working men and women who were generous in sharing their faith. The day of my baptism is a precious memory. That Sunday five of us boys responded to the invitation. My father put all five of us at the same time in our country church concrete baptistery. Tears of joy spilled from his eyes as he baptized each of us.

My college years were spent studying business at McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was in a parking lot my eyes made contact with a beautiful girl I recognized from the grocery store where we both worked- Janet Briggs. We married less than two years later. Upon graduating, we moved to Houston where I began my career with Procter & Gamble. Church life has been an integral part of our married life. I served as a deacon in churches in Houston and Conroe, Texas. Janet taught in Lindale & Northland Christian schools prior to a teaching career in public schools. We are blessed with three grown children.

Procter & Gamble relocated us to San Antonio in 2000 where I worked another sixteen months and then retired from my role as a sales executive. Janet retired from teaching in 2004. Oak Hills has been our church home since the first day we arrived in San Antonio. Our first ministry passion started with serving as LIFE Group leaders. I have also facilitated Discovery classes and mentored in the Career Transition Workshop. Janet enjoys encouraging ladies through ladies Bible studies at church and in our neighborhood. I have served as an elder since 2005. We believe God is continuing to create our story through the calling He has given us to serve at Oak Hills and in our community.
